The Beekman Hotel in New York City is the kind of place that oozes character. From its grand atrium stretching nine stories up to a glass ceiling that offers a peek at the city skyline, to its rich architectural details that give every corner a cinematic feel—it’s a dream for any editorial wedding photographer. So when Chelsea and David told me they’d chosen The Beekman for their wedding, I knew it was going to be something special. They wanted a wedding that felt both sophisticated and effortlessly cool—think city-chic, but still relaxed. And that’s exactly what they pulled off.
Their ceremony took place on the hotel’s open terraces, right along the edge of the atrium skylight. The setup was unconventional in the best way. With the help of Amy O’Keefe Events, Chelsea and David opted for a “pop-up” style ceremony. Guests arrived for cocktails and mingled around the terrace before the ceremony casually unfolded right in front of them. Some grabbed a seat, others stood with their drinks, all surrounded by the towering brick facades and views of the Manhattan skyline. It was modern, spontaneous, and set the perfect tone for the rest of the night—a true New York City wedding moment.
Just as we wrapped the terrace ceremony, storm clouds started rolling in. In classic NYC fashion, Chelsea and David pivoted, moving the reception indoors to The Beekman’s moody lower level. The result? A reception with total speakeasy vibes—low lighting, candlelit tables, and an atmosphere that felt both intimate and electric. The floral centerpieces brought just the right pop of color against the dark wood and brick, and when the music started, the dance floor was packed within minutes.
One of my favorite parts of the night? After dinner and dancing, Chelsea and David snuck away with me for one last moment together—up on the rooftop, under the rain, with the glowing city skyline behind them. It was cinematic, spontaneous, and exactly the kind of moment I live for as a destination wedding photographer. These are the shots that go beyond traditional wedding photos—images that feel like stills from a film, filled with emotion and atmosphere.
For couples dreaming of a modern city wedding with editorial flair, The Beekman delivers in every way. And for me? It’s another reminder why NYC is one of the best cities in the world for cinematic wedding photos.
