A colorful desert romance.
The goal of this workshop is to inspire artistry with the creation of eye-catching and iconic images that break the "static fine-art" format that the wedding industry has been indundated with for the last decade or so. We will be creating fascinating and colorful vignettes that play into the free-flowing organically-opulent lifestyle type imagery we are beginning to see entering the wedding space in the upper levels of the market. This workshop will be entirely focused on creating images that scream "different". Inspired heavily by the stunning images of high society captured by the talented Slim Aarons, we will be creating portraits showcasing an effortlessly luxury lifestyle that isn't afraid to have fun.
There will be two full days of beautiful content for the attendees to enjoy capturing.
The two days of content will have a yellow-themed design, from the decor to the fashion; the entire concept will flow seemlessly with iconic bright yellows and complimentary eye catching tones wrapped into everything from fashion, florals, and details. The various outfits worn by our models will be fun and stylish, with pops of color. The emotions being showcased throughout the vignettes will be energetic and playful, flirtatious and bold. The vignettes throughout both days will be fashion focused, including our bride and groom attire.
This workshop will be located in two main locations: First, a stunning desert estate in Joshua Tree; and second, a private estate in Palm Springs. The editorial portions of the workshop will be held at the estates and a few other unique locations, with the focus on showcasing an affluent and glamourous lifestyle. The first property sits in the high desert of Joshua Tree, surrounded by mountainous vistas and rolling granite boulders.
The second property is located in the funky city of Palm Springs. The estate is a mid-century modern home, right next to a beautiful golf course. Tall green hedges and stone walls surrounding the house. Retro colors and decor bringing in all the right thematic elements. Off in the distance is the beautiful rugged Palm Springs horizon.
Whether you are brand new to photography, or whether you have been shooting for years, you will find this workshop fulfilling and rejuvenating.
There will be a pre-workshop half-day of education for those who want to attend. It is completely optional to the day of content that you will be shooting. The education portion will be 3+ hours of information covering a whole range of topics, but with a focus on light (indoor and outdoor), motion, story-telling, composition, creative flash, and posing/authentic direction. We will also speak on how to keep your artistic spark active even in weddings or portrait sessions that don't quite meet your expectations.
Whether you are brand new to photography, or whether you have been shooting for years, you will find this workshop fulfilling and rejuvenating.
While we will be covering film it will not be the sole focus of the workshop. The photographers who want to learn more about film, how to shoot it in all manner of lighting scenarios, how to meter appropriately for proper exposures, how to understand and work within the limitations of each film stock, and much more - those photographers will gain quite a bit of knowledge from this workshop. However, for those photographers that have no desire to shoot film, we will be covering a wide range of topics that every photographer will find valuable regardless of the equipment they use to capture the image.
Photographers that on shoot digital cameras will be learning all about light, and how to see it in all of its various qualities and strengths. They will learn how to shoot in every lighting situation, gaining confidence in their skills to create stunning images no matter the light. Do you want to shoot in direct mid-day sun, and not be constrained to "Golden" or "Blue" hour? Do you want to learn how to see light indoors and find those perfect spots for gorgeous portraits? Learn how to shoot flash in all types of styles?
Film is just one of many topics we will be covering. We will also be covering natural posing and direction, movement and energy in photographs, unique and creative ways to create interest in composition and crops, and much more.
Five meals will be included (2 Breakfast meals, 2 Lunch meals, and 1 Dinner meal).
Hotel accommodations will not be included.
Once the contract has been signed, and your seat secured at the workshop, we will send you a list of recommended places to stay, with locations close to the estate being the priority.
Do not book any travel or accomodations until we send you a list, as we are trying our best to get group discounts at various hotels/motels.
